PARTICIPANT’S BILL OF RIGHTS
South Asian Arts and Theater House (SAATH) is committed to celebrating cultural diversity and social harmony in our communities through the joyful medium of dance, performing arts, and related South Asian cultural traditions. As such, all SAATH spaces are safer spaces, explicitly welcoming to everyone regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, gender expression, cultural or educational background, or ability.
Exercising any of these rights will not adversely affect your ability to participate in classes, to be selected as part of the SAATH performance team, or be scheduled for shows as part of the SAATH performance team.
You have the right to be treated respectfully: no racism, sexism, classism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, or other oppressive behaviors should be tolerated.
You have the right to be and feel safe during classes, rehearsals, and performances.
You have the right to set boundaries regarding physical contact and to dictate what kind of physical touch you will receive.
You have the right to immediately step out of participation in any SAATH activity without explanation, especially if you feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
You have the right to inform your instructor of anything you want them to know ahead of time, such as physical or emotional conditions that might make certain activities difficult or challenging.
You have the right to speak to your instructor, or a SAATH board member, or any other SAATH representative regarding behavior by any person that you feel infringes on your rights. You also have the right to file a report anonymously.
You have the right to define what feels fun and what feels comfortable (and uncomfortable) for you without judgment from others.
You have the right to withdraw consent at any time.
You have the right to enjoy the class and have fun.
You have the right to fail.
